Upload & Auto Upload

Upload changed files as you work, upload selected items on demand and read the B2C Sync Log

Intellij SFCC uploads single files in two ways: Auto Upload sends every change as you work, and Upload Item sends what you select. Both go to the code version selected for the active connection and leave a line in the B2C Sync Log. To push whole cartridges at once, use Deploy Code

With Auto Upload on, each file you change in a linked cartridge goes to the code version picked in the toolbar, and B2C Sync Log records it with its size and a link to the server copy

Auto Upload

Turn it on with the Auto Upload button in the main toolbar. The icon shows the state: Auto Upload Enabled or Auto Upload Disabled

  • It is off by default
  • The state is saved per connection, so switching the active connection also switches Auto Upload to that connection's state
  • Use the toolbar button. The Auto Upload entry in Tools › Salesforce B2C Commerce doesn't toggle it
You do thisAuto Upload does this
Create, edit, paste or copy a fileUploads the file
Delete a fileRemoves it from the code version
Move or rename a fileMoves it on the server
Change files outside the IDE, for example by switching Git branchesPicks the changes up from disk and syncs them the same way

Branch switches are synced too

With Auto Upload on, switching to a branch that changes hundreds of files uploads and removes all of them. For big switches, turn Auto Upload off first and run Deploy Code afterwards

What gets uploaded

Only files inside linked roots are uploaded: cartridges marked as Cartridge Root, B2C Module Root folders and the Modules (Global Modules) Root. See Cartridges & Modules for how to link them

Some files are skipped on purpose, and the B2C Sync Log says why:

LineWhy
[EXCLUDED] You are trying to upload excluded item ...The file is in a folder marked Excluded or Test Sources Root in the IDE
[NOT ALLOWED] ... Please link cartridge '...' to your projectThe file belongs to a cartridge that is not linked

Upload selected items

Right-click files or folders in the Project view, an editor tab or the editor, and choose Upload ... to your connection . The label follows the selection, for example Upload Controller to Dev 01, Upload Templates to Dev 01 or Upload Cartridge to Dev 01

The shortcut is Cmd+Shift+I on macOS and Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows and Linux. The item is hidden when the selection includes anything outside a linked cartridge or module

B2C Sync Log

The B2C Sync Log tool window at the bottom of the IDE gets one tab per connection, named after it. The tab appears with the first upload, deploy or clean for that connection, so the window is empty until then

LineMeaning
[version] :: path [size] updated | Open on serverThe file was uploaded to that code version
[version] :: path removedThe file was removed from the code version
[401] Invalid credentials. Please check your connection settingsThe instance rejected the account or access key
Sandbox is down. This sandbox is currently stopped. Please start it and try again. The sandbox is stopped

Local paths in the log are links that open the file in the editor, and Open on server opens the uploaded file in the browser. Deploy and clean runs print their own steps and a summary, see Deploy Code

With Auto Upload on, each saved file adds an updated line with its size and Open on server, and a deleted file adds a removed line. Paths of files that still exist are links that open the file in the editor

Troubleshooting
