Slots Editor

Edit content slot XML as a tree with forms. Tick defaults in the tree, pick content and templates, schedule configurations and assign campaigns

The Slots Editor opens a content slot file (root element slot-configurations) as a tree of its slots and their configurations, with the selected row's form under it. Every change is an edit of the XML and one Undo step. The Text tab beside Slots Editor shows the same document

The Slots Editor shows slots.xml as slots, their contexts and configurations, with campaign assignments under the configuration they show. You can tick On and Default and pick a template right in the tree, add content assets and drag them in order, switch the kind after a warning, set a schedule while the Schedule cell follows, add a configuration, assign it to a campaign, duplicate, rename or mark it for deletion, add a custom attribute, go to its template or content asset, and read the file's problems beside the XML

It has the toolbar, the Properties and XML panel, the actions and the license rules of every site archive editor. This page covers what slots add

The tree

A slot holds its configurations. A slot with configurations in several contexts gets a row per context, and a context with several context IDs a row per ID, such as category mens. A campaign assignment sits under the configuration it shows

ColumnWhat it shows
NameThe configuration ID, with its description in grey. (no ID) when it has none
Content4 products, 2 content assets, HTML, Empty HTML, Recommendations or No content. A slot reads global or 3 configurations, an assignment campaign
TemplateThe template's file name, with its path as the tooltip
ScheduleThe dates, weekdays and times, such as From 2026-11-27 00:00, Mon to Fri, 08:00 to 20:00. Grey once it ended
OnThe enabled-flag, a check box you can tick in the tree
DefaultThe default configuration of its place, a check box
CodeHow many places in templates render the slot. A click lists them

A configuration not assigned to the site is grey: Not assigned to the site: only campaigns show it. The search reads configuration IDs, slot IDs, templates, context IDs, content IDs and descriptions

The scopes are Global, Category and Folder, each with its count. The quick pills are Unused in code and Disabled with the Code column, Disabled and Problems without it. The Filters popup holds the rest, each with how many rows it shows:

Content

  • An ID no library holds is underlined: In no library of the project
  • HTML opens the body in the IDE's HTML editor, with the header of the Library Editor's body: fold, Soft-Wrap, Reformat, Editor Placement and Expand. Its content links complete and resolve. Other locales are listed with their size, such as Body fr-CA
  • Recommendations show the Rule. No content reads No content: the slot shows nothing

  2. Context of …: global, category or folder, then Category ID or Folder ID
  3. Configuration ID, filled with a free one: the slot ID, else …-copy

The new configuration is enabled, assigned to the site, the default when its place has none, and takes a sibling's template

Campaigns, copies and renames

Campaign assignments

A configuration not assigned to the site shows only through a campaign, and its assignments sit under it. An assignment's form has the campaign, the configuration, the Rank and its own schedule, and its Schedule cell follows each edit

Custom attributes

Add Custom Attribute… lists the SlotConfiguration attributes your metadata defines that the configuration has no value of, each with its name and type, and Other ID… for any other. The new value gets its own field, ready to type in, and Show in XML shows the custom-attribute it wrote

Go to the template or a content asset

Go to Template under the template, or Cmd+B / Ctrl+B on the row, opens the template in its cartridge. Go to Content Asset in the row's menu opens the asset in the Library Editor, or lists the matches when there are several. Back (Cmd+[ / Ctrl+Alt+Left) returns to slots.xml

Properties and XML side by side

The split button beside Properties and XML shows both at once (Show the properties and the XML side by side), stacked when the editor is narrow. The XML follows the selection and each edit: Mark for Deletion leaves the configuration's keys with mode="delete" and strikes its row out

From a template

In ISML, <isslot id="…"> resolves to the slot's configurations in the project's site import XML. Cmd+Click / Ctrl+Click opens them, and completion lists the slot IDs with their file, and the IDs other templates use

Checks

ProblemWhy
Configuration "summer" of header-banner is in the file 2 timesA configuration ID is once per place
header-banner has 2 default configurations in globalA place has one default
Context "page" is not global, category or folderThe schema's contexts
A category slot needs a context-id, A global slot has no context-idThe context ID follows the context
Rank "0" is below 1Ranks start at 1
Template "slots/missing.isml" is in no cartridge of the projectA template no cartridge has
Content asset bf-terms is in no library of the projectA weak warning on an ID the project's libraries lack
The schedule starts after it ends, time-from is after time-toA schedule that never holds
Rank, schedule and customer groups apply only to a configuration assigned to the siteA weak warning on targeting the site never uses
